Bugao Xu received his Ph.D. in Textile Sciences in 1992 from the University of Maryland at College Park, joined the faculty of the University of Texas at Austin as an Assistant Professor in School of Human Ecology in 1993 and became a Full Professor in 2004. He is also affiliated with the programs in Biomedical Engineering and Material Science & Engineering of UT Austin. Dr. Xu’s investigative research has focused on physical modeling of textile materials, characterization of material properties, instrumentation, and 3D body imaging, modeling and virtual clothing. He has also conducted research in 3D technology for obesity assessment and pavement inspections. Up to date, he has authored 128 refereed journal papers (108 in SCI journals) and over 60 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, spoke at over 70 invited seminars, received more than $4.5 million grants from federal and state government agencies and private businesses, disclosed 12 technology inventions including four US patents. He has also provided technical consulting services to P&G, Unilever, J&J, Maytag, and Cotton, Inc. to help solve imaging related problems.
