On July 2, Professor Xu Yingjiao from North Carolina State University, Professor Gu Bohong from Donghua University, Professor Tao Xuyuan from the French National Institute of Textile Engineers, and Professor Shen Jinsong from de Montfort University gave wonderful presentations.

Xu Yingjiao on the "textile and fashion industry related consumer behavior and market analysis" launched a detailed introduction, starting from the market segmentation, examples to illustrate the relevant content, including demographics, geographical location, consumer behavior characteristics, market orientation. She introduced SWOT analysis, which describes how to scientifically assess a problem to be studied in terms of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. And led the students to think, starting from the daily textile/clothing brands, Li Ning, Uniqlo, ZARA, etc., using SWOT analysis to analyze and discuss practical problems.

With the theme of "Structural mechanics of textiles", Gu Bohong introduced the structural properties of natural fibers and man-made fibers, took cotton fibers, wool fibers, silk fibers, spider silk, mineral fibers, nylon, viscose and other examples, carried out comparative analysis, focusing on the types and different properties of polymer fibers and new fibers such as microfibers and nanofibers. The complex interaction between textile, human body and environment is introduced, and the concept of multi-scale is introduced. He put forward the question "What is elasticity" to the students, and launched a lively and interesting explanation to explore the basic process of fabric processing. Through mechanics, energy, digital and other methods to achieve the simplification of complex problems.

With the theme of "Smart Textiles and Their Applications", Tao Xuyuan gave examples of the characteristics and application scenarios of different smart materials, including shape memory polymers (SMP), hydrogels, superabsorbent polymers (SAP), piezoelectric polymers, conductive fillers (CPC), etc. The related textile technology and principle, such as microencapsulation technology and photoluminescence, are also introduced. Many smart textiles are inspired by nature, and bionics plays an important role in textile design.

Shen Jinsong introduced the sol-gel technology in "textile surface function", and explained it in detail from the definition, principle and specific operation process. The preparation method of aerogel by sol-gel method, the drying process of aerogel and the sol-gel treatment of knitted fabric under different cushion pressure are described. At the end of the course, participants completed the assessment online.
