On the seventh day of the summer school, Professor Xiangyang LIU from the Physics Department of the National University of Singapore, Professor Hao Fong from South Dakota, USA, and Professor Jinsong SHEN from De Montfort University in the UK opened a new chapter for knowledge.
In the morning, Professor Xiangyang LIU gave his first lecture “Silk”. Silk - as one of the oldest textile materials, its excellent performance has always been the object of research by scientists. The professor introduced the origin of silk from the shallow to the deep, and compared the structure and properties of traditional silk and spider silk. By showing pictures and videos, we felt the huge energy hidden behind this seemingly weak silk.
Professor Hao Fong introduced the knowledge of foreign language periodicals, publishing houses and English writing in science and technology. The professor introduced some well-known periodicals and their influence factors (IF) firstly. The factor of influence refers to the frequency quoted by a periodical in specific years and periods, and it is an important index to weigh the influence of academic periodicals. The professor also introduced the H index, which means that a researcher has at least H papers cited at least H times, which can reflect the academic achievement of a person more accurately. Finally, the professor also introduced the contents of a scientific paper: introduction, experiment, result analysis, conclusion and reference.
In the afternoon, Professor Xiangyang LIU explained the mesoscopic functionalization of silk materials - mesoscopic doping, and introduced the mesoscopic electronic components - silk memristor to the students through some pictures. Later, the professor further explained the application of silk - flexible electronic display, flexible energy materials and intelligent wearable. Finally, the professor patiently answered the doubts of the students.
Professor Jinsong SHEN brought us the last lesson. First of all, professor introduced the basic knowledge of wool. Subsequently, the professor explained the application of protease in wool fibers, such as enzyme treatment, which could reduce the felting properties of wool fabrics. Through the explanation of Professor Jinsong SHEN, the students had a deep understanding of the wide application of enzymes in textiles.
