On July 7, 2019, the fourth day of the 2019 Shanghai International Textile
Graduate Summer School, students continued to embrace the new day with full
enthusiasm. Today, Professor Tushar K. Ghosh and Professor Yingjiao Xu from
North Carolina State University, Professor Qingqing Ni from Shinshu University,
and Professor Jinsong Shen from De Montfort University in the UK led the
students to explore the mysteries of the textile world.
Professor Tushar K. Ghosh brought his second lesson, which described the
structural properties of soft and swellable materials, their applications in
aviation and industry, and the design methods of these products, which gave us
a clearer understanding of the application of textiles. After that, Professor
Qingqing Ni mainly talked about the buckling vibration of the material
structure from macro to nano. Cumbersome mathematical theory analysis and
physical modeling could not resist the students' pursuit for knowledge.
In the afternoon, Professor Jinsong Shen introduced the magical sol-gel
technology to the students. The gel process has a variety of functions to
improve the hydrophobicity, UV resistance, abrasion resistance, and
antibacterial properties of knitted cotton fabrics, and to keep the fabric feel
soft. The combination of enzyme and sol-gel technology for wool can improve the
shrink-proof properties of wool fabrics and weave lightweight and soft wool
fabrics. This novel technology has aroused great interest among the students
and the students asked lots of questions. Professor Yingjiao Xu brought the
fourth lesson of the summer school - SWOT analysis. The students were full of
reluctance and listened carefully. After that, the professor asked the students
to discuss in groups and use the SWOT model to analyze the brand. Everyone
actively participated and took the initiative to share their team work. The
atmosphere was active.
