On July 6, 2020, the Shanghai Textile Graduate International Summer School, sponsored by Shanghai Academic Degrees Committee office and hosted by Donghua University, was launched online due to the epidemic. After the opening ceremony, Wei Yi, distinguished professor of Donghua university , introduced the application of advanced composite materials in life and composite materials in the field of military application, meanwhile explained the definition of advanced composite materials, structure, properties and research direction in the field of textile and new requirements for textile and so on. He showed the students the application prospect of advanced composite materials in the textile industry. Finally he also had interaction with students and answered the questions put forward by students. Professor Martin W. King from North Carolina State University introduced and explained the methods of using scaffolds and not using scaffolds to repair tendons, as well as the research direction of tissue engineering scaffolds and their application in the textile field.
The afternoon courses were also online. The two professors brought wonderful lessons. Professor Gu Bohong from Donghua University and Professor Gong Ronghua from The University of Manchester enthusiastically lectured to the students. First of all, Professor Gu introduced the multi-scale structural design of textile composite materials to students by teaching in both Chinese and English. He compares textile composites with traditional metals, and expounds the reasons for the excellent mechanical properties of composites through the study of properties of composites, including mechanical properties, failure standards and modes. Professor Gong Ronghua from the University of Manchester introduced himself and the University of Manchester. Then, it revolves around textile and garment materials. At first, the composition of textile discipline research was explained to the students, and the properties of textile materials were proposed, and the influence of the properties of textile materials was illustrated. Through some tests and characterization, the clothing materials could meet the needs of some specific fields of application. Therefor the students received a lot of goods.
Despite the online learning, students are still enthusiastic about learning. Through today's study, students had a basic understanding of the development of the textile industry and the application of textile composite materials. At the same time, students deeply realized that textile occupies a very important position in the national economy, and we must keep innovating to develop textile. It is hoped that in the following study, all students can have a deeper understanding of various fields of textile and grasp the new trend of textile industry development.
