On July 11, 2020, Shanghai International Textile Graduate Summer School is still in full swing. Students are interested in learning and professors are passionate in teaching. Today, Professor Bugao Xu from the University of North Texas, Professor Gang Sun from the University of California at Davis in the US, Associate Professor Xuyuan Tao from National Institute of Textile Engineers and Professor Jinsong Shen from De Montfort University in the UK gave lectures for students and open a new chapter for everyone.
The lecture of Professor Bugao Xu is on the Key Technology in Customized Clothing. It is mainly divided into three aspects: human data acquisition, pattern modification and manufacturing. On this basis, Professor Xu came up with the process of body scanning and virtual clothing. In the second half of this course, Professor Xu also gave two examples to introduce the relevant technologies and processes, which facilitated the students' understanding and learning.
Next, Professor Gang Sun introduced the functional textiles established on the theme of modern textile chemistry. Based on the existing academic research on functional textiles and needs in textile innovation, Professor Sun put forward the major concerns. Some chemical-based textile processing techniques and methods are presented.
In the afternoon, Associate Professor Xuyuan Tao continued his lecture on smart textile materials. This lecture mainly introduced Optical fibre and E-Textiles. This paper introduces the optical fibre from the aspects of related technology, obtaining method and application. Advanced Textile Electronic connectors are mainly introduced for E-Textiles. At the end of this course, Professor Tao presented some of the research that his team has done so far. The students were enthusiastic and the course was well received.
The lecture of Professor Jinsong Shen is on Sol-gel technology for textile surface functionality. The method of obtaining sol-gel and the textile application of sol-gel surface coating were introduced. If this technology is applied to cotton fabric, it can improve the Ultraviolet Protection Factor and modify textile handle. Sol-gel technology has wide application prospect. The students are also very positive and the atmosphere is good.
The research achievements presented by the professors reflect the current leading technologies and innovative products in the textile field, which is not just academic exchanges but brainstorming. In this summer school, every participant has benefited a lot.
