On June 29, 2023 Shanghai "Textile" Graduate International Summer School officially opened. Professor Martin W.King from North Carolina State University, Professor Wang Xunji from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Professor Fu Kun from University of Delaware gave excellent academic presentations.
Martin W.King introduced the content of biomedical textiles under the title of "The Process of New Product Development of Bio-textiles", the report from "What is biomedical textiles?" He pointed out that the current research goal is to improve medical treatment and prevent diseases through the appropriate use of biomedical textiles, advanced materials, etc. The design basis and application market of medical textiles used for health care, comfort and hygiene, surgical transplantable substitutes and biological textiles used for growing new tissues and organs were analyzed. Medical textiles have a very important position in the medical field, and can be used for laparoscopic surgery, artificial blood vessels, artificial arteries and other diseases. Martin W.King's simple introduction opened up the participants' vision and made them have a further understanding of medical textiles.
From the historical perspective of textile research, Professor Wang Xun comprehensively introduced a variety of classic textile technologies, textile products, and major breakthroughs in the development of textiles through landmark papers in different periods of the textile discipline. From textile measurement technology, yarn uniformity theory, fiber mechanics, nanomaterials, environmental costs of textile manufacturing and other aspects, the historical process of textile research was presented to the students, so that the participants had a more profound and specific understanding of the fields involved in textile and development trends.
Fu Kun brought an academic report on "additive manufacturing", introduced relevant technologies and applications in a lively and interesting way, focused on 3D printing molding technology, including how to use 3D printer and what kind of problems can be solved by this technology, and explained the relationship and differences between 3D printing materials and textile materials. In addition, Fu Kun had a cordial communication with the students, sharing about the challenges and future of additive manufacturing, and discussing how to apply scientific research to specific production. The students showed great interest and were eager to ask questions during the Q&A session. Fu Kun gave answers one by one patiently.
