On July 5, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Shanghai International Summer School for Textile Graduate Students, was held simultaneously at the Songjiang Campus of Donghua University in a combination of online and offline methods.

Prof. Martin W. King from North Carolina State University and Associate Prof. Kun Fu from University of Delaware gave wonderful academic presentations.

Martin W. King made "The Process of New Product Development in Biomedical Textiles" as the title of the keynote report, introduced the development history of biomedical textiles, development needs and trends, the Prof. Martin took biomedical textile materials as the starting point and elaborated on the current research applications such as surgical sutures, arterial prosthesis, stent grafts, percutaneous heart valves and drug delivery systems, etc. Biotextiles provides a valuable single source of information on the main textile materials and product types used for medical implants.

Kun Fu gave a detailed introduction on "Introduction to Additive Manufacturing (AM): Materials, Processes and Applications". He introduced the definition, development, advantages, challenges and the future of AM technology, and took 3D printing technology, which is the most common technology in our life and study, as the starting point, and guided students to think about the relationship between "3D printing" technology and textile in combination with examples. He guided the students to use 3D printing technology to find solutions to problems. His introduction provided with more solutions and ideas to solve problems.
